I came out trans a few weeks ago and have been stretching my wings so to speak. One of those things that comes to mind is getting rid of the name given to me, Jeff, and replacing it with a more fitting feminine name.
I have spent a considerable amount of years debating this in my mind. I have tried so many names for myself and none of them fit. I was waiting for someone to come up and say "you look like a so and so", like a name fairy, then I could go with that. But all I've gotten is Jeffebelle from a guy with 666 tattooed on his forehead (who is now Jewish, go figure!) and Jeffrika from a guy who reminds me of a leprechaun...cute but not something I'm putting on a business card.
What has stuck out to me is Ruth, Ruthie to my friends. Mainly because of the story in the bible. Ruth had to strike out on her own and make her own way in life. She created a new family in a new place and took Naomi with her. She was loyal but stuck to her morals. She was strong. I think I'm a Ruth.

Soon to be Ruthie, perhaps?
