Dear Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,

Please halt the deadly Kinder Morgan Pipeline to protect the Salish Sea from the annihilation of an oil spill and Please evict open pen virulent fish farms from the Salish Sea that kill wild salmon, Orcas and entangle Humpback whales.

She's A Year Older and She's Amazing.... by Rory Andes

Happy Birthday to an amazing little girl. She's smart, funny and quick with her comebacks. She loves to sing (and who wouldn't, right?). She doesn't know me very well, but I know we have lots in common. She's a part of me and she's a part of her mom and made of all of the love we put into her. She's a member of an amazing world just waiting for her to add to it in so many more beautiful, meaningful ways. I hope she enjoys her friends, her grandparents, and her mom on her special day. Here's to cool presents and cooler people, just like her. I love you, kid... Dad

Technology: Catching Up On Modern Times (from prison!) by Jeff aka Ruth Utnage

I came to prison in 2011. Apple products were beginning to take flight, but were expensive. iPhones were for rich people still, tablets were a budding luxury, touch screens were emerging as the newest must have. Facebook was still the place to be, Wii Golf was the latest game craze.

Now, cars are driving themselves, security companies use bots, dating apps where some sort of swiping occurs (wtf is that?), Instagram - which I've never seen - and even those below the national poverty line have tablets and iPhones. So confused.

Yelp, Zillow, Hulu, Netflix, Red Box, Craigslist, eBay...all were different. Amazon was mostly books still but beginning to overtake other product markets. Google was releasing features for its users that nearly everyone trusted...because it was Google.

Then we have new tech since I've been in, controlling your home and auto from your phone app. Temp, lights, oven, refrigerator, door locks, car, garage door all from an app. Mind bending stuff.

This brings up an app idea of my own. Check out my other post, coming soon, titled "Stupid Cupid".

SHIP Sandwich by Christopher Havens

Let's begin with a stupid joke. What's purple and commutes? hmmmm??? AN ABELIAN GRAPE! :-) ..y'know... because an abelian group... is commutative.. no? Nobody? Sorry, I can't help it.. I'm a math addict. But all this math has lead to public speaking, which caused me to partake in creative writing which, in turn has led me to give some very seedy speeches in order to overcome my fear of judgement in a crowd. . Once, I wondered at what would be the hardest speech to sell a crowd. I decided that the crap sandwich would be a tough sell... soooo I sold the SHIP sandwich (Semi Hard Ionized Poop). I sold it like a true salesman of snake oil. I threw in some plausible things to make it seem real, and after a while, people wanted some before they figured out what it was! I broke out the free samples, and the room went quiet. There were a few doing "Hail Mary's", and a few dry heaving. A few gave a smile, and a few gave me looks that could cook an egg in its shell. ...That.. is what I needed, after all. I won the best speaker award after applying suspect piece of brown food to a guys face like chapstick. It was a brownie with actual corn kernels in it, formed to look like a turd, but to my defense, it was delicious despite its appearance. The guy didn't beat me up. Yay! All with a straight face!

Moral of the story? Well, sort of. If you want to overcome a fear of judgement, jump in a situation where you know you'll be judged.. so that it eventually loses its punch to the nether regions. This works with a bunch of stuff. This logic turns faulty when you begin to apply it to conquering your fear of death. For example, you can't beat your fear of dying by having somebody kill you... And similarly, you can't conquer a fear of sharks by swan diving into a pool of fifty or so sharks. That sucks. Then at least, you'll have the opportunity to figure out if having your legs bitten off is enough to conquer your fear of having no legs.

She Carried Combat Boots by Marshall Byers

Years ago I was sent out of town for work. Portland Oregon was booming with construction. The company put me up in a hotel for a short stay. Walking through the lobby after checking in, I turned the corner and made my way to the elevators, and this is where it happened.

The Thrum Of Life by Marshall Byers

Holding pure love, sustenance fade, so strange.
Watching her weep, arms out stretched,
old wooden vessel carries me away, safe voyage uncertain.
Letters pinned, again and again.

Precarious reflections, arising waves, disappointment.
Standing barefooted, cold waters edge.
Ship wrecked, ill-lit flickers of recollection.
Self-suffering, sinking sadness, how long has it been?
Letters pinned, again and again.

How do you forget something that you never remembered?

Wonder ...
despair...
guilt..
shame..
At last, ubiquitous regret.
Repeating year after year, after year.
Letters pinned, again and again.
