I have to admit that I am a big fan of tattoos. I remember my grandfathers tattoo that he got of a Hula girl (named Marcella after my Grandmother) on his bicep when he was a young sailor in WW2. He used to flex his muscle and she would do a dance. It never dawned on me that in his later years he would be uncomfortable wearing short sleeved shirts because Marcella's legs would be showing quite provocatively. Fast forward 30 years and Rofinus's grandson, art lover and collector, saw over the weekend one of the most creative pieces of body art he had ever seen.
Being of German Ancestry, I grew up with The Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Most of America has seen or heard the Disney version of these classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel. However, very few people know that the endings of these classic stories were heavily edited for the sake of not scaring the children of America.
An example of this is the ending of the classic story of Cinderella. The two wicked stepsisters went to Cinderella and the Princes wedding hoping to fall back into her good graces. They never made it. A flock of birds flew down, pecked out their eyes, and the two wicked stepsisters wandered blindly the rest of their lives due to their bad actions. Snow Whites wicked step mother also had a horrible fate. She was placed in red hot iron slippers and forced to dance until she was dead. These were not even the worst of moral punishments that various characters experienced.
Anyway, the tattoo covered my friends whole arm. It was the Black Forest picturing all of the real endings of the classic fairy tales. I have to say it was awesome and creative. He got it done a few years ago by a German artist in a prison out of state. This was by far the most creative piece I have seen in my prison career. Its a shame some folks talents go to waste.
