Finding Peace Among The Weeds by Marshall Byers

Last summer I worked for the yard crew, which consisted of watering our giant garden, mowing the entire land around the prison, and my favorite, pulling weeds. Yeah, pulling weeds. Now I'm sure you're thinking to yourself, yeah right, who the heck likes pulling weeds!? I enjoy this task, because it helps me live directly in the moment for instance, when your pulling weeds, you're not thinking about yesterday or tomorrow, all stress and anxiety fades away. I feel most connected and grounded with the earth when my hands are in the soil. This choice to pull weeds has become a healthy way for me to slow down, be quiet and receptive. I love helping the flowers grow as well.
