Being Transgendered In Prison by Ruth Utnage

If being trans is my choice, my, what a lonely choice. I am hated for no reason. People seem to think that if I wear make-up in the visit room I will corrupt their children, some even say that I am softening and destroying the very fabric of America. Some have even told me that I am the downfall of all mankind. Maybe I should be renamed the Anti-Christ?

Religious groups despise me, administration tolerates me only because the law says that they have to, otherwise I'm sure I would be killed to cleanse the Earth of my kind and all those "allies" who wear a badge would simply look on and do nothing, same thing they do now.

Lest I come across as self-pitying there are advantages...lots of people pretend to be my friend. That's neat.

Being trans in prison SUCKS! If I had a choice I'd be a straight white guy, not a circus freak.

Whatever...I am just feeling lonely, today is one of those days where I just want to have a conversation with someone from the outside.

With Love
Ruth Utnage
