APRIL IS NATIONAL SEXUAL AWARENESS & PREVENTION MONTH:
part 5:
This next article I edited & put some of it in my own words, it came from Hannah Baldwin of the News-Star from 4-13-2016:
Men wobbled in high heeled shoes as they lined up to walk along Northeast Drive on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus...
They were participants in a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an annual event during which men wear high heeled shoes to raise awareness of gender violence.
The Wellspring, ULM Femhawks & Sexual Assault Response Team of Oauchita Parish organized the event, which ended with a vigil in Bayou Park.
Teri O'Neal the Oauchita Parish Coroner talked about her role overseeing sexual assault investigations in the parish.
Dozens of students spoke
of their support of survivors of domestic & sexual violence. Survivors spoke, too.
ULM freshman Emily said she had forgotten about the event. As she was walking to dinner, she saw the men in high heels & decided to stay for the vigil.
After watching other survivors speak about their experiences of surviving domestic violence, child abuse & sexual assault, she walked up to the podium to tell her story.
It was the first time she had spoken publicly about it.
"I figured if there's other people that can (tell their stories), then I could, too,"
Thanks for your time!!!
