PRISON BY THE NUMBERS #:
part 2

Here are a few more statistics on prison population for you:

In 2006 a judge in California ordered 46,000 people in prison there to be released from prison because of overcrowding.

So not only is it obvious that people were released because of overcrowding, but if the state let 46,000 people go, instead of paying to house them it means:

MAYBE THE PEOPLE DIDN'T BELONG IN PRISON...because the States usually only let people who were convicted of low level, non violent crimes qualify to be released because of overcrowding!!!

Think about that my friends!!!

OK California let 46,000 people go, in comparison, my state: Washington has 18,000 total people in prison!!!

From 1977 to 2012 the number of women in prison flew up by 600% from about 15,000 to about 111,000 people.

The number of woman in jail from 1986 to 2013, flew up by almost 5 times from about 22,000 to 102,000 people.

From 2000 to 2010 the number of Latina women in prison went up by 70%

The number of White women in prison from 2000 to 2010 went up by 50%

From 1998 to 2013 in Ohio, the number of White women in prison there went up from 43% of the total Women's population to 80%

In Montana in 2013 Native Americans were only 7% of the total population of free people there, yet Native American women were 36% of the women's prison population.

We can see from these stats that the number of women in prison, especially in certain places is very disproportionate.

What also is unusual is: When it comes to men--Usually African American people are the most likely to have the highest disproportionate incarceration rates.

Yet when it comes to women--White Women have highest disproportionate incarceration rates.

Why is that?

I can't answer that. I have read "Experts" opinions in several books, but I question the accuracy & legitimacy of their opinions, so I will not mention them here.

But here are some things that I do know:

In 1973 A National Advisory board on criminal justice Standards and Goals said: "No new institutions form adults should be built and existing institutions for juveniles should be closed."

So why did this Government Agency say institutions should be closed?

And, why did the Government of the USA go against the recommendations of it's own Agency?

Obviously the Government went contrary to the recommendations & the prison industry skyrocketed instead of dropping off.

So why spend the TAX PAYERS money to create a committee, then waste the money, time & manpower of the research they did by completely ignoring them?

Thanks for your time!!!
